Pallas Athena supports ING-DiBa's Audit Services department with its Process Mining Solution

Reflect| one software for efficient, continuous auditing has been successfully implemented.
 
With the Reflect|one process mining software package from Pallas Athena, a leading supplier of business process management solutions, the Audit Services department of Direktbank ING-DiBa has implemented an efficient solution for the analysis of processes. Pallas Athena was supported by ProcessGold, an innovative consultancy company providing automated and system-based process analysis.
 
As the internal audit division of a bank in Germany, the Audit Services department of ING-DiBa is also required to audit all of the bank's activities and processes on a regular basis. Until now, process analyses were carried out using established methods such as "walk-throughs", interviews, and workshops with regard to design, risks, and efficiency. This approach was, however, extremely time consuming, and made it difficult to determine deviations from and exceptions to standard processes. Consequently, it was difficult to create an objective and comprehensive risk analysis. During the course of Audit Services' decision to use process mining, ProcessGold first analyzed the end user credit application process, using the process mining software Reflect| one. To do this, ProcessGold examined all procedures carried out over the past three months in a variety of different systems. In particular, issues such as how many processes the designated standard procedures run through, and how many exceptions exist in the process were examined.

"With the help of process mining, we quickly achieve complete transparency of process flows, by examining all business processes. The technology enables us to improve the quality and efficiency of our audit activities, by allowing us to better focus on relevant risk, control, and efficiency issues."
 
Automated analysis of processes

The analysis using Reflect|one was done fully automated. Pallas Athena's process mining technology was thereby able to gain detailed insight into the process flows examined, and to transparently show how processes actually run. The process mining-based process analysis enables a complete picture of all process steps, paths, and exceptions to be visualized, instead of processes only being analyzed at key points. This method therefore perfectly complements
standard data mining tools such as Idea or ACL.
